Operation theatre

OT can be a very relaxing place if the op goes smoothly.

Or it can be very hectic if one is on call with loads of emergency cases and baby wanting to come out eagerly

I encountered 2 very contrasting situation.

If I were ib elective OT, after spinal or GA, I could sit by a side with my MO, specialist and nurses and chat till the surgeons are done.

Ok once in a while we adjust the settings , lights or the table position. Life sounds great right?

But..

If the patient is unstable , we have to make sure he withstand the whole operation, that include giving different meds , inotropes , order for blood, and constant staring at the monitor for the slightest changes is the patient's vital signs.

Like the other day I was oncall OT, i started at 8am and end my day 730 the next morning. It was hectic but I managed to do alot.
2 intubation, 6 spinals and 1 LMA.

I went home collapsed....
